Beckham Hall is a residence Hall on UIC’s South Campus whose first floor was originally developed as a storefront retail space.

The University retained LVDA to convert a floor previously dedicated to retail into collaborative learning and work spaces with a tight schedule and budget. The project provides a new suite of classrooms with 30-78 seats, offices and support spaces while also establishing a variety of collaborative working and social spaces. The goal here was to quickly construct a suite of Team-Based Learning spaces to test a range of options in group sizes, formats, and furnishings that can be used to inform the next generation of facilities for experiential learning.

There is a C-Stop with a help desk, and café style seating and a lobby that serves as a student lounge. Project scope includes the installation of new architectural elements, finishes, furniture, audiovisual systems and MEP infrastructure.
