LVDA professionals completed a feasibility and master plan and then implemented an incremental expansion through a series of renovation and new construction projects. The carefully phasing enabled the top ranked business school to maintain its competitive status.
The largest challenge entailed maintaining a visual and functional identity for the Jacobs Center Complex while reorganizing spaces for maximum efficiency and flexibility. The first phases involved an addition of a 25,000 sf six-story structure and renovating 225,000 sf in Andersen and Leverone Halls. Linking the two Halls enabled the Jacobs Center to function as a single complex for more efficient departmental expansion. This was followed by the renovation of Coon Forum, doubling the capacity. Later we completed a programming study for upgrading all remaining classroom, seminar, group study and teaching space followed by the renovation of 13 additional seminar and lecture spaces, creating new rooms from underutilized back of house space and reconfigured seating layouts. The designs improved sight lines, lighting, technology, audio-visual controls, acoustics and quality of finishes. The ongoing program most recently implemented a new café, renovation of the first floor and lower level main corridor/gallery, a student lounge expansion and renovation of the recruiters’ area and interview offices in 2011.
